CBO Players of the Month
Top Hitting Performance - The top hitting performance in the CBO came on May 7 when University Point's 1B Barker Cocoa went 3 for 3 with a double, two home runs, two walks, scored four runs, and drove in six against Goodneighbor.
Top Pitching Performance - SP Sheng Kawolski had the month's and the season's top pitching performance on May 29 when he held Egret to just two hits in 9.0 innings, walking one and striking out 12 in the Diamond City victory.
NCA Hitting - Dusty Brownell battered North Charles Association pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.
"I've been around Commonwealth Baseball Organization long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old Brownell told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."
In 22 games, Brownell hit .398 with 11 home runs, 22 RBIs and scored 21 runs.
So far this year Brownell has 16 home runs and a .304 batting average.
SCA Hitting - To survive in the bigs, you've got to be a scrapper like Barker Cocoa. It never pays to take a day off from the batting cages or to shrug off the advice of the hitting coach. It all paid off today as University Point's first baseman pinned down the South Charles Association Batter of the Month trophy today.
He hit .506 in May collecting 13 home runs, 34 RBIs and 31 runs scored.
In 42 games this season Cocoa has compiled a .445 batting average with 65 hits and 19 home runs. He has also scored 51 times and knocked in 53 runs.
NCA Pitcher - Capping off a whirlwind month in which he went 5-0 with a 2.09 ERA, Beachboy Nut was selected as May's North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month today. Reporters caught up with the elated Nordhagen Beach starter as he left the clubhouse.
"I know it's difficult for pitchers -- when you have a bad start or two, people start wondering if you've lost it. Then you ride stretches like this one for all you can. You find it easier to come to the park every day because know you're contributing to the club, not just waiting for your turn in the rotation to make up for your last start."
Beachboy Nut definitely contributed to the club. He had 5 starts, throwing 43 innings, striking out 29, and holding the opposition to a .219 average.
So far in 10 appearances this season, Nut has recorded 7 wins and sustained 1 loss. He has pitched 81 innings, yielded 62 hits, fanned 57 and has a 1.89 ERA.
SCA Pitcher - The best pitcher this past month in the South Charles Association was Admiral Kelm of the Egret Ninjas. He really razzle-dazzled league hitters, finishing May with a standout 5-1 record and 2.39 ERA.
The Ninjas hurler made 6 starts and surrendered 34 hits in 49 innings. He struck out 34 and walked 16.
Kelm has made 11 starts so far this year and put up a 9-2 won-lost record with a 2.80 ERA. In 86.2 innings he has allowed 65 hits, walked 38 and struck out 57.
NCA Rookie - Kilometers Davis is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest North Charles Association Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.
In May the The Slog hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .284 average with 25 hits, 4 home runs and 16 RBIs.
Davis is presently hitting at a .346 pace with 14 home runs and 41 RBIs. He has played in 42 games and scored 31 times.
SCA Rookie - Steve Mirv's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Goodneighbor first baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.
In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month.
During the month he hit .240 with 3 doubles, no triples and 3 home runs. Mirv also scored 12 times and drove in 16 runs.
