Changes prior to the 1890 season:
- Stoke weren't re-elected to the Baseball League after a 4th place finish (32-26-8)
- Stoke joined the newly formed Baseball Alliance along with 11 other teams, this league will compete with the Baseball League though their quality and economic power is inferior
- There are newly formed leagues in both Scotland and Ireland, though they've chosen to remain purely amateur for now...
- Argentina and Denmark organize their first national tournaments, though the baseball quality is still poor.
Historically, the Scottish and Irish football associations banned professional players from their national teams. Of course there's no way to do this in OOTP other than choose the teams manually, but I think it's more fair to just let the AI choose whoever it thinks the best players are and see them compete. However, Scotland selected only 9 players while Ireland 8 players from The Baseball League. This means the majority of their rosters should still be amateur. I've nerfed the player quality in both leagues, with the Scottish league being almost on par of the English one and the Irish league being considerably weaker. Anyway, hopefully the expanded player pools make it a more entertaining tournament and we get less 30 run games.
So, without further ado: the
1890 British Home Championship!
Prior to the tournament, England were favorites to win it once again as their league is the strongest and their players are already experienced at the international level. Stars such as Everton Hanson and Everton Taylor, who have kept a combined 1.02 ERA in 123.2 innings, and a lineup that has combined for a .309 average will keep England as the forerunners for the 1890 title. Only 4 players make their debut in relievers Gareth Fitch (Preston) and Frazer Williams (Burnley), 3B Douglas Gilbert (Rangers), and SS Bill Cairns (Blackburn).
Scotland will be hoping to put up a more competitive 2nd place finish than last year. Glasgow's best in Benjamin Boyd (Rangers) and Joshua Murphy (Celtic) join Derby's Cristopher Clark and his 1.43 ERA at the BHC. The Tartan Army are at their best at the plate, where greats such as SS Jonathan Young (Bolton) and CF Ross Matheson (Accrington) are looking to replicate their league form while newcomers like 1B Leon Fraser (Cambuslang) and CF Lewis Johnston (Dumbarton) get their first taste of international ball.
Wales' core remains the same as last year, which means we can probably expect another 3rd place finish. Star 2B Shane Pollard (Notts County) will hope to improve on his .182/.423/.418 slash in the tournament. The most interesting additions to the team are 1B Marcus Chapman (Sunderland) and 2B Tim Smith (Cowlairs).
Finally, Ireland are able to recruit an entirely new core with players from their league. Perhaps none of them are stars, but they should be able to be more competitive than in 1889. Preston RF Feheen Pannett returns to the national team, and having the nation's best player on the roster can only be good news.

England vs Scotland
We get what's probably the most interesting series of the tournament to begin with. In the first game, England out-hit Scotland but still lost the game 8-4. Cambuslang's Leon Fraser's 3 RBI game outweighed Paul Brodie and Danny Campbell getting 3 hits each. Christopher Clark wins his 5th BHC game after allowing only 4 runs (3 earned) in 7.1 innings, he struck out 5 batters. England tie the series in a smashing 10-4 victory with Danny Campbell (3 hits, 4 RBI) being the hero. James Harley also has 3 hits, including 2 doubles and 2 RBI. The Three Lions end up taking the series with a 4-3 victory, holding Scotland runless after scoring 3 in the 6th. Lefty Keith Coleman allows just 5 hits and 3 runs (1 earned) for England.
Ireland vs Wales
The Welsh Dragons strike first, winning 5-2 behind a nice pitching performance from Stuart Miles. Scott Chilvers hits 4 for the Welsh team but was only driven in once. In another close encounter, Wales win 3-1 behind Douggie Murray's gem of 6 hits allowed, 3 K and just one unearned run in the complete game. LF Brian Algar also has a 4 hit, 1 RBI game for Wales. The Welsh complete the sweep after another 3-1 victory, led by Bertrand Paterson's performance (CG, 7 H, 1 ER, 5 BB, 3 K).
Wales vs England
England stop Wales' streak, smashing them 7-1 in the first game. Aaron Watkins and Paul Brodie get 3 hits each while James Harley has 4 RBI on 2 walks and a 3 run homer. Everton Hanson recovers from a losing performance against Scotland by striking out 4 and allowing just one unearned run. Wales go top of the table with a 7-1 win, holding England to just 3 hits! 5 players have a multiple hit day for Wales. Douggie Murray has a good start: 3 hits allowed, 1 run, 7 walks, 3 strikeouts. England take the series with a dazzling 20-3 victory. Aaron Watkins has a 4 hit, 4 RBI game; Everton Brown has a 4 hit, 2 RBI game and Dennis Cox has a 3 hit, 5 RBI game.
Ireland vs Scotland
Ireland score 3 but Scotland prove their superiority by putting 14 past them. Joe Rennie and Ross Matheson have 3 RBI each. Ireland keep it close but a 5 run 6th from Scotland makes it a 6-3 loss for them. Darryl Murphy has a 4 hit game for Ireland. The Scots complete the sweep with a 5-2 win behind Joshua Murphy's performance: CG, 4 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks, 5 Ks.
England, Scotland and Wales are tied at the top of the table with a 4-2 record and one series to go.
England vs Ireland
England start it off with an easy 20-6 victory. Every player but starting 1B James Harley (4 walks) and pinch-hitter Anthony Dean get a hit. Douglas Gilbert has 3 RBI on 4 hits while Aidan Hunter has 4 RBI on 3 hits. Ireland tried to come back from a 5 run England rally in the 1st, but ultimately fell 2 runs short. Lee Patterson hit a grand slam for England. The Three Lions secure their third title after a 9-2 win. Both Bill Cairns and Paul Brodie hit 3 run homers in the 7th inning. Keith Coleman allowed 2 unearned runs and struck out 3 in the complete game.
Scotland vs Wales
Scotland win their first home game of the tournament 10-1, with Christopher Clark lowering his tournament ERA to 1.42 after the complete game performance. Ross Matheson has a 4 hit game for Scotland. The Welshmen take the second of the series by 5-3, despite Thomas Jackson's best efforts (3 hits, 1 RBI). Douggie Murray has his 8th win in 10 BHC games after his complete game performance (7 HA, 3 ER, 10 BB, 3 K). A 4 run rally allows Scotland to win it 10-8, netting them the second place. Ross Matheson has 4 RBI in 2 hits.
England win the 1890 British Home Championship! It is their 3rd win in a row.
