My best guess is as follows...

I know that the facegen itself loads just once, so it is saved in a cache. That cache is located in the saved games folder (go to Settings from the Start Screen, at the pop-up pick troubleshooting, open saved games folder). Once you open the .lg folder, go to news, html, images, profile_pictures. See the cached facegen png files there? Select all AND then unselect the “default_profile_picture” (to keep it) and delete those cached facegen png files. I think the reason you are still seeing the facegens is because of those facegen cached images already generated before you made the switch to photos.
