White Sox Surge Past Yankees to Take 1-0 Series Lead
The Chicago White Sox took the first game of the League Championship Series in dramatic fashion, topping the New York Yankees with a ninth-inning walk-off, 3-2 victory. Yankees pitcher Joe Coleman had a productive, if futile, game. He threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball.
The White Sox were down to their final out when right-fielder Bobby Tolan turned a 1-0 curveball from Lindy McDaniel into a 2-run single. The walk-off single made the Comiskey Park crowd go wild.
"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Chicago manager Fred Koster told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Comiskey Park in Chicago.

Yankees Hammered by Campaneris, Fall Further Behind in CS
The Chicago White Sox moved to within one game of the World Series, downing the visiting New York Yankees at Comiskey Park by a score of 8-4. White Sox shortstop Bert Campaneris did some major damage. He was 2-5 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBIs and scoring once. The win gives the White Sox a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 League Championship Series.
A key moment came with one out in the bottom of the fifth. That's when Campaneris hit a changeup from Jim Bunning for a 3-run home run, putting Chicago up, 6-1.
"Things aren't going great right now," New York manager Wally Millies said. "But you don't need me to tell you that."
Game 3 is scheduled for Tuesday at Yankee Stadium in New York.

White Sox Advance to World Series
The Chicago White Sox rode the strong arm of Dave McNally to earn a sweep of the New York Yankees in the League Championship Series.
Chicago won the final game at Yankee Stadium by a 3-0 count and the series 3-0. McNally was instrumental in the series win and was named MVP.
"Hopefully, we can do it all again in the World Series," he said.
For the series, McNally had a 0.00 ERA over 9 innings pitched, with a 1-0 record.
The Chicago White Sox don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Houston Astros-Philadelphia Phillies series. That series is tied at 1 game each. The World Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes.

In his 141-pitch effort, Seaver allowed 1 run on 5 hits over 9 innings. He walked 5 and struck out 11.
"Things broke our way today and that's great," Astros manager Frank Colman said. "It's important, though, to stay focused and not pat yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."

Astros manager Frank Colman did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the World Series."
