A key moment came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Giants pitcher Jim Maloney socked a 1-1 curveball to right-center for a 2-run triple, putting San Francisco up, 4-0.
"There was a kid in the stands with a sign that said 'San Francisco Giants (probably) 1965 World Series Champions'," Maloney told reporters after the game. "I told him, 'Premature, but I like the confidence.'"

Almost There: San Francisco On Cusp of World Series Triumph After 6-1 Win
Already in trouble in the World Series, the Detroit Tigers knew they needed a strong outing from their starter and good production on offense. They got one of the two.
The Tigers failed to put much together on offense and wasted an impressive 7-inning effort from left-handed starter Marcelino Lopez, falling, 6-1, to the San Francisco Giants at Tiger Stadium. The loss put the Tigers in an even deeper hole -- they now trail San Francisco 3-1.
San Francisco used the timely hitting of Harmon Killebrew to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Giants on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We aren't quitting," Detroit manager Randy Reese said. "Yeah, the odds are definitely in their favor, but they've got to earn it."

Game 5, October 12th, 1965, Tiger Stadium
Giants Take Title
With a 2-0 win over the Detroit Tigers at Tiger Stadium today, the San Francisco Giants wrapped up their 6th title in team history.
The Giants left little doubt who was the better team. Celebrating a banner year, "team" was the word of the day in the victorious clubhouse after the game.
"Hitting, pitching, fielding; those are all things you need to win, but most importantly you need a team, a team that works together toward the same collective goal," said San Francisco manager Harl Maggert. "Our players felt that way all year, and they played that way. When one guy had an off day, 24 others stepped up their game and filled the void."
A jovial mood filled the air as San Francisco celebrated into the night. The city's mayor said parade plans were underway and a "huge celebration" would be in order.
"I hope they have a big celebration," Detroit manager Randy Reese said. "They deserved to win this series and they deserve to celebrate it."
