Cards news: April 15 -- Shoulder injury will end season for Nootbaar,
The St. Louis Cardinals have learned that outfielder Lars Nootbaar will miss the remainder of the season after he suffered a torn labrum during a 4-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on April 13.
The season had not gotten off to a good start for the 28-year-old Nootbaar, who had hit just .143 in 10 games/9 starts with one home run and five RBIs.
It is expected to be nine months before Nootbaar can begin working toward returning to the field.
Replacing Nootbaar on the roster is veteran outfielder Hunter Renfroe.
Signed to a minor-league contract on March 25, Renfroe has played 10 games at AAA Memphis during which he hit .235 with three home runs in eight RBIs.
Renfroe broke into the majors with San Diego in 2017.
During that time, he has hit .238 with 194 home runs and 537 RBIs.
