Wagner Collects Hit Number 2,000
For Honus Wagner, it was a red-letter day. The Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop slapped his 2,000th career hit. That his team defeated the New York Giants, 4-2, made it even sweeter.
His manager paid tribute to Wagner after the game: "I've followed Honus since he came into the league," he said. "Fine ballplayer. Fine work ethic. I'm not surprised by what he's achieved."
The 34-year-old Wagner finished the day with 2 hits in 3 at-bats.
Wagner has a lifetime .333 average and .400 on-base percentage in his career with 2,001 hits, 399 doubles, 134 triples, 70 home runs, 945 RBIs, and 1,062 runs scored.
