Players hitting too many triples in a season: Fictional/historical
I run historical leagues starting in 1871 but with fictional players. I have stats and all settings evolve as they did in real life. I use "Automatically Import Historical player-creation modifiers." I use full minors. I don't mess with any annual stat output but use the defaults.
In both the leagues I've created, I got excessive triples by individual players. For instance, in the most recent league, by 1891, 30 different times a player hit more than 36 triples in a season.
In real life, 36 triples were hit only once in history.
The extreme: in 1886, one player had 65 triples among his 152 hits. But in that season--according to the historical simulation accuracy--3B/H was only +0.1% too high. So the problem isn't total triples for a season, but the distribution of triples among players.
For the most part, a small number of players are cranking out these high-triples seasons.
This has happened in both the leagues I've run that started in 1871: season totals of triples seem appropriate, but a small handful of players vacuum up most of these triples.
Below is some of the relevant player ratings for the last season I've run. Players are sorted by the number of triples they hit. Perhaps a few players are getting created with ratings that make them triple-vacuums
