Brooklyn's Dahlen Reaches 2,000 Hits
"It would have been a lot nicer if my 2,000th hit had won the game," said Bill Dahlen after the Brooklyn Superbas had been tripped up by the Philadelphia Phillies, 9-2, spoiling his big day. The Superbas shortstop gained access to the exclusive 2,000-hit club by going 1-for-4 in the game played at Washington Park.
"The standing ovation by the fans is not something I will ever forget," Dahlen said to the press after the game. "I think even the Phillies fans were cheering me."
During his career, Dahlen has compiled a .287 batting average and collected 2,000 hits, 67 home runs, and 958 RBIs.
