A few things should happen:
- A check if the pitcher is hurt; if so, to what degree. (I've never seen a pitcher forced out of the game after being hit with a ball.)
- A greater probability the batter reaches safely. (Never seen a runner *not* thrown out, almost always by the third baseman.)
- If not injured, at least an acknowledgment from the pxp that he's being checked on by the manager or pitching coach and trainer.
