Beckley Reaches 2,000
Jake Beckley has gone through many bats during his playing career. None of them means as much to him as the one he used to crack career hit number 2,000 at Palace of the Fans yesterday.
The 34-year-old Reds first baseman told reporters after the game, "I plan to keep this bat at home in my own private Hall of Fame."
It was a happy day for Beckley from the standpoint of the 2,000-hit milestone, but a little disappointing, too. Despite his achievement, Cincinnati dropped the contest to the St. Louis Cardinals 8-1.
For the day, Beckley finished the day with 2 hits in 3 at-bats.
In 1,628 games, Beckley has a career .305 batting average and a .360 on-base percentage. He has hit 66 home runs with 1,115 RBIs and 1,177 runs scored.
St. Louis Cardinals (1-6) over Cincinnati Reds (4-3)
