In the preseason, you can import the 1981 "as-played" schedule, which would only include the games that were actually played.
As for the playoffs, in the preseason, you can set your league to split-season format. Under League Settings, go to the Options tab, and it's on the right side of the screen. May have to scroll a little bit to get to it.
