Curiously, the thing that you FTP players fear most (discontinuation of the game) is exactly what would happen if they changed the game to satisfy your complaints about how unfair the current game is.

No, I'm looking for something where anyone can compete, log in once a day, and enjoy that particular game mode with the same benefits of those who have more or less time. The other modes are still there - tourneys wouldn't contribute to this mode, but would continue to contribute to normal PT mode. This mode would just have daily rewards and achievement awards.
The game costs money to buy. I'm not saying stop the PTW modes you have now, but just offer that one extra F2P team mode, one per licensed copy of the game. I don't see how that makes it "not economically viable" - we're still buying the game. And the other PT modes would still be there.
The one trick would be the auction house - I think you'd have a lot more people trying to do auction house manipulation tactics with a mode like this, if the auction houses between the normal PT and this mode were the same. But I shrug - it's all hypothetical anyway. I could think of ways to make that a non-issue.
