Thoughts on 2024/25 Roster
Calgary's forward lines are the biggest question ahead of 24/25. While there are some strong players such as Huberdeau, Kadri and Mangiapane, the core is getting old and needs young stars to rise up. Kadri has been very impressive but also has been leading to intra-team conflict, which lengthened some of Calgary's slumps.
Defense:
The blue line, when healthy is starting to become a point of strength for Calgary. Young stars like Boqvist and Moser have the ability to hold down positions for years to come, and even some of the veterans have a few years ahead of them. Losing Tanev and Lajoie will be a shame, so acquiring a strong defensive defenseman would be a plus in the offseason.
Goalie:
Of the Flames goaltending, Markstrom is a proven effective NHL goalie, Vladar has shown his strength and Wolf needs more time in the AHL. With his extension this year, the current plan is to start Wolf in the AHL, and if he succeeds maybe look to move either Vladar or Markstrom to make room in the NHL.
As we have a fairly thin prospect pool, and neither of our 1st round picks will be high enough for NHL ready talent, the goal will be to draft best player regardless of position.
