Trades, awards for July, and baseball standings at the start of July 1913
Trades before the trading deadline:
-The New York Giants traded 24-year-old LF Lee Magee to the Pittsburgh Pirates, getting 30-year-old CL Frank Browning in return.
-The Boston Red Sox traded 37-year-old RP Win Kellum to the St. Louis Cardinals, getting 24-year-old RP Fred Sherry and 22-year-old RP Roger Salmon in return.
-The New York Giants traded 24-year-old RP Ben Van Dyke and 21-year-old SP Pol Perritt to the St. Louis Browns, getting 32-year-old 3B Roy Hartzell in return.
-The Detroit Tigers traded 27-year-old RF Beals Becker to the St. Louis Cardinals, getting 31-year-old SP Hub Perdue in return.
-The Boston Braves traded 21-year-old RP Bert Gallia to the Chicago Cubs, getting 33-year-old RP Ernie Ross in return.
Awards for July:
3B Frank Baker of the Washington Senators wins the AL Batter of the Month Award.
CF Ty Cobb of the Boston Braves wins the NL Batter of the Month Award.
SP Bill Hogg of the Chicago White Sox wins the AL Pitcher of the Month Award.
SP Walter Johnson of the St. Louis Cardinals wins the NL Pitcher of the Month Award.
SP Rube Foster of the Washington Senators wins the AL Rookie of the Month Award.
SP Ralph Comstock of the Pittsburgh Pirates wins the NL Rookie of the Month Award.
In the AL, the Washington Senators now have a 4-game lead over the Detroit Tigers for first while, in the NL, the St. Louis Cardinals are now in second, a half-game behind the New York Giants.
