The 1907 World Series: Philadelphia Athletics vs. New York Giants
Game 1, October 9th, Columbia Park
World Series Game 1 Victory for McQuillan and Philadelphia
The stakes were high. George McQuillan was ready.
The right-hander turned in a performance for the ages at Columbia Park today, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the Philadelphia Athletics to victory in Game 1 of the World Series. McQuillan held the New York Giants to 6 hits and no walks, while striking out 2. The win got the best-of-7 series off to a good start for Philadelphia, which now leads 1-0.
McQuillan delivered a quality start for Philadelphia. The 6' 0" right-hander allowed no earned runs on 6 hits over 9 innings of work.
"We're one game closer to our goal," Philadelphia manager Dustin Carr said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Columbia Park in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Tops New York Again, 7-0
The Philadelphia Athletics got an exceptional performance from starter Eddie Plank, who silenced the New York offense en route to a 7-0 shutout win in Game 2 of the World Series today. The Giants could never get a bead on the left-handed Plank, who threw 9.0 innings of shutout ball. The Athletics now hold a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-7 series.
Plank pitched a complete game for Philadelphia. The left-hander, who calls Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, his home, racked up 10 Ks, while allowing just 3 hits. Giants hitters could not touch his curveball -- nor any other pitch, for that matter.
"I got in a good groove," said Plank. "I was getting some swings and misses."
The next game is set to be played for October 12th, 1907 at the Polo Grounds in New York.

Game 3, October 12th, 1907, the Polo Grounds
Athletics Win Again, Extend Series Lead to 3-0
The Philadelphia Athletics are one game away from a sweep of the New York Giants today after a road win at Polo Grounds, 5-4. Athletics right-hander Nick Maddox had a strong outing. He threw 9.0 innings of 8-hit ball. Philadelphia now holds a 3-0 advantage in the best-of-7 World Series.
Philadelphia used the timely hitting of Jack Morrissey to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Athletics on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
Giants manager George Davis did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the World Series."

Game 4, October 13th, 1907, the Polo Grounds
Philadelphia Sweeps New York
With a 9-0 win over the New York Giants tonight at Polo Grounds, the Philadelphia Athletics wrapped up their 1st title in team history.
Philadelphia left little doubt who was the better club. "Team" was the word of the day as the Athletics celebrated the culmination of their banner year in the victors clubhouse following the game.
"Hitting, pitching, fielding; those are all things you need to win, but most importantly you need a team, a team that works together toward the same collective goal," said Philadelphia manager Dustin Carr. "Our players felt that way all year and they played that way. When one guy had an off day, 24 others stepped up their game and filled the void."
A jovial mood filled the air as Philadelphia celebrated into the night. The city's mayor said parade plans were underway and a "huge celebration" in the works.
"We're going to celebrate our team, our championship Philadelphia Athletics," the mayor said.
The champions completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the AL and a 84-70 record.
Athletics win series 4-0
