Game 140: Boston Americans vs. St. Louis Browns
In hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have tried to force the issue. I had hopes of getting Jesse Tannehill his 20th victory of the season, and took steps over the last few weeks to shift rotation around in an attempt to provide the proper setting. In the end, Tannehill ended the season on a multi-game losing streak and falling short of the 20-win mark. In today's game, the St. Louis Browns (63-77) topped the Boston Americans (73-67) by a 7 to 3 score. Hate to see the team end the season on a down note.
Bill Dinneen (9-11) picked up the win by limiting the opposition to 3 earned runs on 8 hits, wild pitch, and hit batsman while striking out 5; Game Score 64. Jesse Tannehill (19-16) lasted 6 2/3 innings of play in which he allowed 7 earned runs on 11 hits and 2 walks; Game Score 24. Bert Husting covered the final 1 1/3 innings of scoreless play.
The big-hitters for the Browns were Patsy Donovan (3 for 4, 2 Doubles, 4 RBIs), Charlie Babb (2 for 5, Stolen Base), and George Magoon (0-2, 2 Runs, 2 Walks). Jiggs Donahue (2 for 4, Double, 2 Runs) and John Farrell (2 for 4, RBI) played well in the loss.
Player of the Game: Bill Dinneen
