Game 139: Boston Americans vs. St. Louis Browns
As rumors continue to swirl regarding the team's direction for next season, this might have been the last start of Cy Young with the team (perhaps career...). If this was it, Young should be proud of his efforts as he led the Boston Americans (73-66) to a St. Louis Browns (62-77) to a 4 to 3 victory.
In picking up the win, Young (13-17) allowed 3 earned runs on 10 hits to finish with a Game Score of 56. Tom Hughes (11-22) was tagged with the loss after permitting 4 earned runs on 8 hits and 5 walks in 8 innings of play; Game Score 46. Frank Owen covered the final inning of scoreless play.
At the plate, Jesse Hoffmeister (2 for 4, Homerun, Run, RBI), Frank Chance (2 for 4, Double, 2 RBI), and Fred Clarke (2 for 5, RBI) played well for the Americans. For the Browns, Ed Phelps (2 for 4, Double, Run, RBI), Patsy Donovan (2 for 4, Run), and Charlie Babb (2 for 4, RBI) made solid contact in the loss.
Player of the Game: Cy Young (Season: #11 / Career: #43)
