Here is a reply from Matt Arnold from a post in the v23 forum. You can probably find similar posts for each version in their respective forums with a search. The developers have stated there is only one sim engine many times and in many ways.
These threads come up almost every year. The developer will comment in the thread there's only one engine followed by posts from users that "know better". You'll find the thread from last year is 4 pages. Here's a link to the thread in case you're interested in some extra reading, though no extra credit points will be awarded.
