The July Super Post

CBO Players of the Month

NCA Hitter - Zeldolph Violet battered North Charles Association pitchers all June and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Commonwealth Baseball Organization long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Violet told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 22 games, Violet hit .363 with 10 home runs, 22 RBIs and scored 24 runs.

This season Violet is hitting at a .377 pace with 28 home runs, 71 RBIs and has scored 63 times.

SCA Hitter - Today University Point's Barker Cocoa was named the South Charles Association Batter of the Month for June. He punished SCA hurlers hard all month long, collecting 37 hits in 77 at-bats.

With a .481 batting average, 8 home runs, 29 RBIs and 26 runs scored, he was an easy choice.

In 65 games this season Cocoa has batted at a .391 pace with 88 hits and 21 home runs.

NCA Pitcher - The best pitcher this past month in the North Charles Association was Gavin Eviritts of the County Crossing Bloodbugs. He really razzle-dazzled league hitters, finishing June with a standout 4-0 record and 3.12 ERA.

The Bloodbugs hurler made 5 starts and surrendered 30 hits in 40.1 innings. He struck out 33 and walked 16.

To date this year Eviritts has compiled a 10-2 mark with a 3.33 ERA in 16 starts.

SCA Pitcher - Spectacle Island Reapers hurler Dobbie Radoncis was rewarded today with the South Charles Association Pitcher of the Month honors. Radoncis, 28, realizes that pitching isn't all about how hard you can throw, it's about accuracy and about picking yourself up even when you've had a run of bad luck.

"I'd like to say I don't give them anything to hit," said the Spectacle Island starter, "but that's not true. Every pitcher gives up a long ball now and then. Usually there's at least one mistake in each at-bat, but you've got to battle through your mistakes and build some positive momentum. The rest will fall into place."

Things did fall into place for Radoncis. In June he took the ball for 47.1 innings while notching 21 strikeouts, a 2.28 ERA and a 5-0 record.

So far this season, Radoncis has logged a 8-4 record with a 4.19 ERA. He has started 17 games, hurled 124.2 innings and registered 67 strikeouts and 58 walks.

NCA Rookie - Youngster Birdie Burdi emerged as the latest North Charles Association Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Fort Hagen deserved the honor, batting .244 with 4 home runs and 13 RBI. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Burdi enjoy the limelight.

So far this season Burdi is hitting .285 with 10 home runs.

SCA Rookie - Magnum Peaeye earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the South Charles Association for last month's performance. The boyish Diamond City right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Peaeye hit .400 with 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and 20 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Peaeye is hitting .345 for the season with 18 home runs, 54 RBIs and 47 runs scored. He has 91 hits in 264 at-bats and played in 66 games.

BYDL Players of the Month

NR Hitter - Saugus Launchers fans believe they've got a talented young star in Mia Thunder.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in June, as he hit .495 with 8 home runs, 37 RBIs and 31 runs scored.

The end result was the right fielder being named the North Region Batter of the Month.

So far this year, Thunder is batting .429 with 14 home runs and 62 RBIs.

SR Hitter - Rip Risk may be much younger than other hitters in the South Region, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in June to win the Batter of the Month award.

The 18-year-old West Quincy third baseman hit .457 with 7 home runs, 26 RBIs and 27 runs scored.

Thus far this year Risk has hit .389 with 14 home runs and 42 RBIs.

NR Pitcher - The North Region scribes have selected June's Pitcher of the Month and have awarded the honor to Paul Stains of North Charles Bank. He was outstanding on the hill last month and has the numbers to prove it -- a 5-1 record.

The Goonies star performer made 6 starts with a 2.42 ERA and surrendered 39 hits in 52 innings. He struck out 80 and walked 11.

Stains has started 12 times this year, pitched 100.2 innings, fanned 152 batters and walked 19. His current record is 10 wins and 1 loss with a 2.32 ERA.

SR Pitcher - Question: Who was the #1 pitcher in the South Region in June?
Answer: That would be Mihai Comanita of the South Beach Waves.
He excelled with a 4-0 mark and a 1.49 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 42.1 innings, fanned 44 and held opposing teams to a .179 average. That's exactly why the South Region scribes voted him the Pitcher of the Month.

This year Comanita has compiled a 5-3 mark with a 2.63 ERA.

SCYL Analysis

The Quahog have a Magic # of 3 and are on a 10-game winning streak to hold the SCYL's best record by 10 games.

SCYL Players of the Month

CCL Hitter - Mountainside Rockhand has a lot going for him. The Wellfleet first baseman just broke into the majors this year and now the Cape Cod League has just picked him as its top hitter for June.

In 24 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .433 with 11 home runs, 28 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

Thus far in 2306 Rockhand is hitting .378 with 19 home runs, 59 RBIs, 52 runs scored and has compiled a .461 OBP.

PL - Avrusa Sarethi made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the Providence League this past month.

The Seekonk Quahog second baseman shined through the month of June and has won the Batter of the Month award.

The 16-year-old hit .500 with 13 home runs, 46 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

Thus far this year Sarethi is hitting .433 with 19 home runs, 81 RBIs and 51 runs scored.

CCL Pitcher - Kai Wet-Pommel is the latest Cape Cod League Pitcher of the Month award winner. The Provincetown starter stood out on the hill time and again last month and finished June with a sparkling 4-1 record.

In 4 starts last month, he fanned 41, walked 20 in 32.1 innings and posted a 1.95 ERA. Wet-Pommel held opposing teams to a .216 batting average when he was on the mound.

To date this season Wet-Pommel is 8-2 with 5 starts and an ERA of 2.47 with 81 strikeouts in 73 innings.

PL Pitcher - It was a sensational June for Hitman Medicman as he mystified, mesmerized and terrorized opposing batters to capture the Providence League Pitcher of the Month trophy.

Medicman locked down a 5-1 mark in 6 starts last month, striking out 45 while walking 7 in 47 innings and posting a 1.91 ERA.

In 14 starts this year Medicman has fashioned a 11-3 record and a 2.86 ERA.
