Blue Jackets fire McLellan, bring in Adams
February 14th, 2018 -
Happy Valentine's Day Todd McLellan, it's not us it's you. The Blue Jackets let McLellan go partway through his second year coaching the team. He finishes his run with Columbus with a record of 54-72-11. Columbus was hoping for more this season and Jarmo Kekalainen didn't want to wait until the offseason to bring in his man.
That man turns out to be the recently unemployed Kevyn Adams. Apparently Kekalainen was interested in the former Wild bench boss and once he became available Jarmo pulled the trigger on firing McLellan so he could brin in Adams right away. Adams is good at keeping his players motivated and managing a locker room. He leans toward defensive hockey and played a role this year in 25 year old Charlie Coyle's breakout season. He should get a little more leash from Kekalainen than he did from Fletcher in Minnesota and he could be a good fit for the Blue Jackets.
