Daniel Sedin goes down with devastating injury in blowout loss

October 24th, 2017 -
The Canucks were destroyed in more ways than one in Minnesota last night. It looked like a fairly even game, 1-1 after twenty minutes, Vancouver outshooting the Wild 14-6, seemed like if anything it was a matter of time before Vancouver surged to another victory. Whatever speech Kevyn Adams gave those guys in the first intermission, it worked. Minnesota came out a different team, fired 22 shots while allowing only four and scored six goals, chasing Markstrom partway through the period in the process. It was a dominating display for twenty minutes.

In the third Vancouver battled back and Cassels and Graovac exchanged goals. The shots in the final frame were 10-9 Minnesota. More importantly in a game that was already over, Jonas Brodin hit Daniel Sedin from behind midway through the frame. Daniel did not get up but only a minor penalty was assessed, to the fury of the Canucks bench. After the game it was confirmed that Daniel has a serious concussion and will be out indefinitely. A blow to a Canucks squad that looked to be figuring things out, at least until tonight. The Sedins looked better than they have in years through the first nine games of this season, rejuvenated perhaps by the youthful Bertuzzi. Josh Anderson will be recalled and Vancouver will have some line shuffling to do as they try to recover. Daniel will be sorely missed and we wish him a speedy recovery.
