Yes it's the same... I used the old models with my game earlier since there wasn't 19th century uniforms made with the new template (now they are done). The old model will work but some jersey will look bad (I think the seventies Astros were one of them) and, obviously, your players will have random created by the game pants.
Probably not needed but backup all your uniform folders (cap and jersey) and create new one because the game will use the new model by default if they are in the folder... of course you can change them manually but it could be annoying to do that every seasons for every teams.
