Alex Semin will be in familiar territory as he signed with Washington for two years, hoping to recapture some of the magic he had there in earlier years. Viktor Stalberg chose Philadelphia, receiving a two year contract worth $1.57 Million per year. Jimmy Hayes went with Chicago, signing a two year deal. The Oilers signed Swedish league goalie Anders Nilsson for two years in hopes of shoring up their very weak goaltending situation.

In trade news, the Montreal Canadiens have acquired offensive winger Teddy Purcell from the Oilers in exchange for the rights to twenty year old prospect winger Jayden Halbgewachs. Purcell only appeared in 37 games for the Oilers last season, collecting 13 points in those contests. Halbgewachs is a small but sturdy winger with a good shot and some quickness in his stride. He projects to be a bottom six NHLer if he manages to ever crack the lineup.

The Kings traded former Canuck Jannik Hansen to the Bruins for 26 year old minor league defenseman Zach Trotman. Trotman is a depth minor league defenseman whose strength is defending. The thirty one year old Hansen only appeared in 37 games for the Kings this past year and doesn't bring much offense to the table these days but still brings energy and good defensive play and penalty killing. He will try to earn a more regular role for the Bruins.

Still no decision from Brent Seabrook and no word even from insiders on which way he may be leaning. Some team is going to suddenly add a top four defenseman with Stanley Cup rings to their roster at some point this offseason but when? And who?
