Both Arlett & Hauser were - for the most part - putting up their monster numbers for teams that were not affiliated with the majors, so a simple call-up was not in the cards. Rather, an MLB team would have to purchase (or trade for) the player. And - especially in Hauser's case - those monster years were when they were aged in their mid-to-late 30's. Plus, as their SABR bios indicate, there were additional circumstances that further frustrated their hopes to be major leaguers.
So I wonder if there is some sort of OOTP backstory for Mateo Gray that has kept him out of the majors... Or it could just be that his career minor league avg of .286 with 190 K's (over 580 plate appearances) doesn't translate to major league success...
