I lived near San Francisco from 1962 to about 1970. My dad was a huge baseball fan, and we went to several games a year.

I recall one game, at the Oakland Coliseum, where there could not have been more than 500 fans. Likely much fewer. At the beginning of the second inning, they announced that you could sit anywhere you wanted.

At that point, there was a little knot of fans behind the two dugouts. I walked way the hell down the first base line, almost all the way to the foul pole.

There wasn't a fan within two hundred feet of me, in any direction. Curt Blefary, of the Yankees, hit TWO foul balls. One I had to walk to, the other one landed just a few feet away.

Another game, against the Twins, I walked over to try to get an autograph from a player..ANY player. Rich Rollins told me to F*** off. Sure bud...that one hurt. I was about ten.
