I gather that you want the players to perform exactly as they did, from 1919 on. In that case, development is off, and annual recalc is on. That will incorporate each player’s stats, each year, to determine their ratings.

[1]. You will check the boxes for historical transactions and retirements. Up to you, whether you also want to include injuries. [One big decision, for example, is do you want Lou Gehrig to retire in 1939 due to ALS?]. You will check the box to import rookies to their actual teams - not randomly. You can also check the box for actual lineups, if you don’t want to set them for each team, or let the AI do it.

[2] You can switch the team for which you are GM and/or Manager. For the short term, you can “play as” another team GM.

[3] Your call on the historical minor leagues. I play with player development on, so it’s critical for me to monitor how my guys are doing, and to promote or demote players based on performance. In your league, that should happen automatically (due to “historical transactions” being on), regardless of performance in the minors. I find the minor leagues endlessly fascinating. But it is a lot of additional data to churn through your processor and clog your hard drive.

One additional setting I would mention is the color bar. You could choose, in 1919 or thereafter, to eliminate it. If you do nothing, with the above settings and color bar on, it will not change until 1947. The extensive work that has been done on Negro League equivalent stats means that players would perform in meaningful ways. That said, I’m not sure how the game trading AI would handle the availability of Negro League stars, if you were otherwise using actual transactions and actual lineups. I have only obliterated the color bar with player development on, meaning the AI was free to evaluate Negro League free agents based on their OOTP ratings.

Since you are starting in 1919, you will also have a chance to right a wrong, by allowing Joe Jackson to continue playing. Pretty sure you could override his “retirement” in 1920.

[And yeah, in my sim Lou Gehrig is still going strong. It is going to be amazing to see what his eventual stats will be. He could potentially play during the War years, since he will be too old to be drafted.]

Great information and thank you for the response. I am still mulling what I want to do. Things I know for sure are

I want to start in 1919 and have all things that happened previous to 1919 to be accounted for. I want players to come into the league on the team they really came into the league on that I know for sure. I am pretty certain I want players to be traded to who they should be and when but that I am still on the fence about. Injuries I am ok with them NOT happening so Gehrig can play longer. I want to play as Chicago in 1919 and then move to the Yankees once Ruth arrives in New York. Then ofc as we go move around and relive some of the great teams.
