Or.....
The Expos put Gene Richards on the block. He is 29 and will be a UFA next year, but he was 2nd in hitting in the NL, 1st in doubles and his 162 game avg over his career is .308/.366/.406 31 doubles 9 triples 100 runs 56 rbi 37 steals 5.1 WAR and an OPS of 120. So I acquired him along with a young arm who may or may pan out for our #4 starter and also pending UFA James Chamberlain, 23 year old Lennie Nay, who put together a nice season of 2.0 WAR as a rookie in 90 games and a young bullpen arm who will be a great closer or nothing, depends if he ever stops walking people.
Our payroll goes up about $700,000, but thanks to the World Series win, we have the budget. Richards also has won 2 Gold Gloves, so our outfield defense should be stellar.
