We fell behind 4-0 early in game 1 but scored 4 in the bottom of the 2nd to tie it up. Clark Ullum gave up 2 more runs after 5 and then our bullpen shut them down the rest of the way. We made in 6-5 in the 6th and despite leadoff men getting on in the 8th and 9th, we couldn't tie it up.

The Sox beat the Twins 11-9 so now the gap is 1/2 a game. Our magic # is still 3.

As the Sox were losing to the Twins 11-3, we were behind the Rangers 3-2 in the bottom of the 8th when Vernon Armstead hit a 2 run double to give us the lead, followed by Dan Briggs smashing a 3-run home run as our magic number has now been reduced to 1.

29 year old Briggs has been such a solid player for us throughout his career. in 3800 AB's, he's gone .282/.340/.414 averaging a little over 2 WAR a season. This year he is .310/.361/.430 with 9 HR, 34 2B, and 93 RBI's. I've had him hit 6th most of the season and he has knocked in our 3-5 guys regularly. We just re-upped him at $532,000 a year for 3 more seasons.

We had Blyleven out there to clinch, but he struggled, giving up 4 runs through 6, while Steve Burke with a 5.88 ERA shut us down and we lost 4-1. Coupled with the White Sox winning their 162nd game of the season, we are 1/2 game up and we have to play our make up game in Milwukee.

Fontenot, who leads the league in ERA for us, will face Mark Davis who is 15-12 with a 3.49 ERA and leads the league with 197 strikeouts.
