Game 1 of our 3 game series in KC had us down 1-0 with 2 outs in the 9th when we put up 8 straight hits for 7 runs. And we needed every one of them because we proceeded to give up 5 in the bottom of the 9th to hang on by our fingernails 7-6. Combined with a Sox loss, and we are 1 1/2 up.

Blyleven gave up just 1 run over 8 and Howell added a grand slam in the 6th for an 8-2 win and the Sox lost to Seattle again, so 2 1/2 up with 5 to go

In game 3, Darryl Gambrero shut us down, only allowing Howell's 21st HR and striking out 9 with a 1-hit 5-1 win. Coupled with the Sox beating the Mariners, our lead is is now 1 1/2 going into an off day.

Fred Lynn was named player of the month having gone .356 with 10 HR, 26 HR and 24 runs. Bob Tewksbury was named Rookie of the Month having gone 4-1 with a 3.43 ERA

We now have 3 at home against the Rangers as the Sox have 3 at last place Minnesota.
