Today is the second game in the season-opening series in Cincinnati between the Pirates and the Reds. The Pirates won on Opening Day thanks to a five-run third inning.

In the bottom of the first, the Reds loaded the bases with two out. But Irwin grounded back to the pitcher to end the inning.

Case was perfect through three.

After three: Pittsburgh 0 Cincinnati 0.

In the top of the fifth, Bransfield got a two-out single for the Pirates first baserunner of the game.

In the bottom of the sixth, Crawford broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single. The Reds went on to load the bases with one out. Irwin grounded into the 4-2 fielder's choice for the second out. Dobbs then singled to right to bring home one run but, on the play, Wagner threw Magoon out at home as he tried to score from second to end the inning.

After six: Cincinnati 2 Pittsburgh 0.

In the bottom of the seventh, Beckley collected an RBI single. Peitz picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly. The Reds went on to load the bases with two out for Irwin again but this time he flew to right to end the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, Steinfeldt was called out trying to steal home.

In the top of the ninth, trailing by four, the Pirates loaded the bases with two out. But Bransfield grounded to the pitcher to end the game.

Case recorded the complete game shutout. The Reds got 11 hits in the win while the Pirates committed 4 errors.

Final score: Cincinnati 4 Pittsburgh 0.
