In the top of the first, Chance was injured breaking up a double play and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Johnny Kling. Dobbs would throw Doyle out at home as he tried to score from second on a Dexter two-out single.

In the bottom of the first, the Reds scored two on a Irwin two-bagger with two out.

In the top of the second, Kling brought home a run with a two-out single.

In the bottom of the second, Dobbs got a two-out 2-RBI double. Beckley scored Dobbs with a double and then scored on a Crawford single.

After three: Cincinnati 6 Chicago 1.

In the bottom of the fifth, Magoon delivered an RBI triple. Magoon went on to score from third when Kahoe grounded to short. A two-out RBI triple by the pitcher Newton made the score 9-1 in favor of the Reds. Harley followed with a single that scored Newton. With a runner on first and two out, Jock Menefee took the mound for the Orphans and finally got the third out of the inning.

In the top of the sixth, Raymer padded his stats with a 2-RBI single. Raymer would go on to score from second on a Doyle two-out single.

In the bottom of the sixth, Crawford scored from third when Irwin grounded to second.

After six: Cincinnati 11 Chicago 4.

In the top of the seventh, the Orphans scored a run on a two-out McCormick double. Pinch hitter Germany Schaefer followed with a run-scoring single.

In the bottom of the seventh, Charlie A Ferguson took the mound for the Orphans.

In the top of the eighth, Green brought home a run with a single. Dexter brought home a run with a sacrifice fly.

The two teams combined for 31 hits in the contest.

Final score: Cincinnati 11 Chicago 8.
