Tonight is the third game in the season-opening series in Seattle between the Mariners and the California Angels. The two teams split the first two games of this series.

In the bottom of the first, the Mariners loaded the bases with one out. Stinson flew to right and Bonds threw Cruz out at home as he tagged up and tried to score from third.

In the bottom of the second, Stein scored from third when Collins grounded to first.

After three: Seattle 1 California 0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Meyer jumped on the first pitch of the bat and hit it 381 feet for a two-run homer.

In the top of the fifth, Grich got a two-out 2-RBI double to get the Angels back in the game. Stanton made a shoestring catch on a Baylor flyball to retire the side but injured his shoulder and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Carlos Lopez.

In the bottom of the fifth, Cruz scored from third when Braun grounded to second. Ruppert Jones followed with a 343 foot solo blast with two out.

In the top of the sixth, with a runner on first and one out, John Montague took the mound for the Mariners. Chalk scored from third when Humphrey grounded to first.

In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on first and one out, Mickey Scott took the mound for the Angels. The Mariners loaded the bases with one out. Cruz grounded into the 4-2 for the second out. Lopez then grounded to short to end the inning.

After six: Seattle 5 California 3.

In the top of the seventh, Ruppert Jones threw Remy out at home as he tagged up and tried to score on a Bonds flyball out.

In the bottom of the seventh, Stinson got a run-scoring single.

In the top of the ninth, with runners at the corners and nobody out, Enrique Romo took the mound for the Mariners. Grich delivered a 347 foot 3-run longball to tie the game.

In the bottom of the ninth, with runners at first and second and nobody out, Mike Barlow took the mound for the Angels. With a runner on third and two out, Stinson beat out an infield single to bring Lopez home with the winning run.

The two teams combined for 25 hits in the contest.

Final score: Seattle 7 California 6.
