Reasonable people can disagree. I still contend that it's not so much as
a rule designed to benefit a specific player as it is a rule that wasn't needed until a unicorn-type player exposed a flaw in the previous rule. I mean, the main purpose of the DH is to add more offense / rid us of watching feeble-hitting pitchers. So tweaking the rule to support the intention of the original DH rule makes sense to me. YMMV
