If we're comparing racial relations going back decades, I don't think there's any question that they have improved. Significantly. That said, given how social media has given every knucklehead - from entertainers to politicians to influencers to whoever else - a voice (and the belief that their thoughts, opinions, rants and insults actually matter enough to be shared), combined with the more-recent trend towards lack of tolerance of others' socio-political beliefs & opinions, it's not surprising that racial insults (and the like) would uptick along with a lack of civility in general.
IOW - and we see this in sports and have discussed it here - we have been trending towards total classlessness for awhile. So it's - unfortunately - natural that race-relations would get sucked into the trend, even though it is still so much better than it was.
