We’re a couple months into the season, stopping for a moment to look over the draft, and I figured this is as good a time as any to check in on the league. In many ways, things are going as expected – Pikeville has opened a 2-game lead in LL East, though their +110 RDiff suggests they should have a better record than their current 34-21 mark, while Brunswick and Norridge duke it out in the LL West with just a game and a half separating the two… and, as expected, the Van Buren Captains are still hanging around too, poised to strike should the Patriots or Whalers take their eyes off the prize.
Osceola Stars
Picked to finish in the rear with the gear by the BNN pundits, these Osceola Stars have been something of a pleasant surprise during our inaugural season… after finishing April on a 12-14 record, things looked like we thought they would for the Stars – just another moribund club shuffling along aimlessly in the back of the pack. That’s when
RF Daniel Ray (329/390/539, 11 HR, 27 RBI, 3.0 WAR),
2B David Fonville (314/407/469, 1 HR, 28 RBI, 2.6 WAR), and
CF Monte O’Rourke (290/333/529, 14 HR, 49 RBI, 2.0 WAR) started to put it down something fierce, leading their club to an improbable, if rip-roaring, 18-9 month of May to march all the way back up to 2nd place where they’re currently occupying their time by nipping at Pikeville’s heels.
Also, don’t look now…
BUT…
1B Mason Kimble, of the Pikeville Pirates, has an outside chance at earning the triple crown – kid’s set an unbelievable pace so far this year.
