However, Johnny Bench unloaded a two-run homer in the top of the sixth and another two-run blast in the seventh, spurring an eight-run outburst that spanned the two frames and ignited New York to an 11-8 triumph, giving the Mets a 2-1 edge in the series.
Bench finished with five RBI.
