2084 Season (October 3rd – 5th)

Los Angeles Leopards (105-54, .660, 1st NL West) @ Mexico City Jaguars (93-66, .585, 2nd NL West)
Look, at this stage of the game, there’s really not much to say, so… I’ll let the game generated text do that for me. “The Jaguars are playing .585 ball this season, compiling a record of 93 wins and 66 losses. They are in 2nd place in the West Division, 12.0 games behind the leader. Their number of runs scored of 810 rank 1st in the National League, their .276 batting average ranks 1st. On the other side of the diamond, they have given up 682 runs (7th) with their starters compiling an ERA of 4.03 which ranks 5th. Their bullpen sports an ERA of 4.05, ranking 10th. When playing against our Leopards this season, they have a record of 7 wins and 8 losses.”

Here are the projected pitching matchups, our pitchers listed first:
LHP L. Duarte (13-5, 3.65 ERA) vs LHP O. Sum (12-7, 4.03 ERA)
LHP L. Álvarez (15-9, 3.24 ERA) vs LHP J. Garcia (13-9, 4.17 ERA)
RHP H. Vaughn (11-6, 3.69 ERA) vs LHP H. Cartmel (11-10, 4.12 ERA)

Also, don’t look now, but there is a 3-way tie in the American League for the final wildcard slot with Seattle, Salt Lake, and Denver all sitting on identical 81-78 records. I should also note that the Boston Shamrocks are just 1-game ahead of that trio and have lost their last 4-games straight.

Here are the current playoff odds based on strength of schedule and whatever else OOTP uses:
Boston Shamrocks – 81.2%
Denver Miners – 45.6%
Seattle Metros – 40%
Salt Lake Alpines – 28.5%

#160: Win, 6-4… this night belonged to Otto who posted his 2000th career hit during a 3-for-4 day that included a HR and 2 RBI. Otto, our all-time Leopard leader in Games, Hits, and homers will surely have his number retired when he’s inducted into the baseball HOF. What a career he’s had and, while I wouldn’t say he’s been the best player in this save, it’s been a lot more fun with him in it, that’s for sure.

Elsewhere: Seattle beat Denver at home to improve their playoff lot by a score of 9-2, Salt Lake bested the Portland Pioneers in their park to stay the course, and Boston, those poor schleps from Massachusetts were set back a bit with a 6-2 loss, at home, at the hands of the lowly Toronto Maple Leafs. Also, the Kent Comments swept our Compton Raiders out of the 3A playoffs. If you’re counting, all of our development clubs that made their respective playoff brackets have been summarily dismissed from championship consideration.

Updated odds:
Boston Shamrocks – 59.8%
Salt Lake Alpines – 56.5%
Seattle Metros – 54.8%
Denver Miners – 19.5%

#161: Loss, 4-6 Mexico City scored five runs after the 6th, completing an improbable comeback to knot this series up as we head into that last game of the regular season. Satoru Ono did the dirt, he’s killed us this year, with a 2-run HR during the bottom of the 8th that completed the Jaguars comeback and improved their H2H record against us to 8-9.

Elsewhere: Denver got some of that sweet, sweet get back against the Seattle Metros, winning game two of their set by a score of 12-3. Meanwhile, the Boston Shamrocks, unravelling now, and the Salt Lake Alpines were both dealt losses, hurting their chances to advance to the American League playoffs.

Updated odds as we head into the final game of the regular season:
Denver Miners – 60.5%
Seattle Metros – 50.1%
Salt Lake Alpines – 45.8%
Boston Shamrocks – 43.7%

#162: Loss, 5-7… Mexico City, in something of a moral victory I presume, managed to even up the season series against us a 9-9 on a 2-run TANK from 2B Zack Francis off Rad TaylorZack finished 3-for-4 with that homer, and 2 runs of his own to pace the Jaguar offense. 3B Sandro Brincat his first Major League homerun, Ethan ran his total up to 35 this year with one of his own, and, while we did manage to plate 5, it was those 6 left stranded that really hurt us here – you gotta take advantage of the opportunities you create against teams like Mexico City.

Elsewhere: The Seattle Metros, after losing again to the Denver Miners, were eliminated from playoff consideration with Boston and Denver making it after the following play-in games…

Also, Tom Franzone’s 51 HR season tied him with Carl Fermin for 2nd all time on the leaderboard. Fermin first accomplished the feat way, way back in 2012.

Record: 106-56, .654, 1st NL West
Up Next: It’s playoff time, baby!
