Game 139: Cleveland Bronchos vs. Boston Americans

An 11-run 2nd inning made for an easy victory for the Boston Americans (94-45) over the Cleveland Bronchos (62-77) by a lopsided score of 14 to 1.

Starter Jesse Tannehill (24-11) had a tremendous game in which he allowed just 1 earned run on 2 hits and 2 walks to finish with a Game Score of 79. Kid Nichols (15-20) was knocked out of the game after just 1 2/3 innings, allowing 9 earned runs on 8 hits and 2 walks; Game Score of -4 (yikes!). Jim Hughey didn't fair much better, as he allowed 5 earned runs on 9 hits and 1 walk over 5 1/3 innings. "Wild Bill" Donovan pitched a perfect final inning to finish the game.

With Boston's 17 hits, there were several players that warrant mention, including Jiggs Donahue (3 for 3, Homerun, 3 Runs, 3 RBIs, 1 Walk), Dave Brain (3 for 5, Double, 2 Triples, 3 Runs, 3 RBIs), Kid Elberfeld (3 for 5, Double, 3 Runs, 3 RBIs), and John Farrell (3 for 4, Double, 1 Run, 2 RBIs). Special Note: Dave Brain tied an American League regular season game record with 2 Triples.

Player of the Game: Jiggs Donahue (Season: #2 / Career: #2)
