Update. A disappointing 2040 season.

San Diego Sharks went from Diamond World Series to barely avoiding relegation. After a 17-10 start on Monday, the Sharks offense vanished and finished with only 558 runs. Completed the Baseball Ref missions in time for the start of 2041, and the results are encouraging. 29-19 to this point, and no Tuesday offensive collapse. Top six are now Robin Yount, Chipper Jones, Mickey Mantle, Fred Lynn, Johnny Mize, and Mookie Betts.

Last Chance Texaco won their Gold division but lost the World Series in seven games. They were promoted to Diamond and are holding their own in a tough division at 27-21. Top six are Chipper Jones, Topps Jose Altuve (he just keeps hitting), Mookie Betts, Turkey Stearnes, Willie Wells, and a platoon of Eric Thames and Tony Perez. This team is seriously all in on live spec and will pull in 450,000 points if everyone gets promoted to the next level (although I doubt that my two Corbin Carrolls are going Perfect).

Petrograd Soviet made the Gold playoffs but were knocked out in the first round and remained in Gold for 2041. They are 26-22 to this point, and I obviously need to do something with the 46 packs and 92,000 points they have sitting in the kitty. Top six are Ben Zobrist, Turkey Stearnes, Willie Wells, Buck Leonard, Lance Berkman, and the ubiquitous Mookie Betts.

Wherever Whatevers finished second in their Iron division to another low-level juggernaut, and the joke was on both of us as we were both knocked out by an 85-win Wild Card and have to repeat Iron level. So far in 2041, first place with a 34-13 record. Top six are George Davis, HoJo, Reggie Smith, Topps Alex Bregman, Mo Vaughn, and...wait for it...Mookie Betts. My big pack pull Fergie Jenkins went 29-3 last season and is off to an even better start this season, with a 2.04 ERA and a ridiculous 9:1 K/BB rate.

...and just for funsies, I started a theme team. Seventies Bombers use only players from the start of division play in 1969 through the '81 strike season. They are off to a 41-8 start in Rookie League, and their top six are Cesar Cedeno, Ben Oglivie, Perfect Reggie Smith, Fred Lynn (yes, that one, he's breaking the game at this level), Dick Allen, and Perfect Ted Simmons. This team will need some serious help with pitching as time goes on because there just aren't that many great Seventies pitchers in this year's set. Steve Carlton, where are you?
