Out with a whimper...
Despite taking a couple of leads, the Rays died in this series as they lived: not scoring enough runs and unable to keep Chicago hitters in the ballpark. For a moment there in the 7th it looked like they might keep their season alive when they went up 2-1, but
Hayden Juenger gave up a homer to let Chicago tie and in the 8th
Seranthony Dominguez gave up a 2-run shot to Adalberto Mondesi, his second of the game and that was that. They did load the bases in the 9th but a shallow fly ball and a ground out ended that threat along with the season. The only bright spot was the excellent start from
Waylin Santana, who held Chicago to 1 run in 5 2/3 innings and he should be a part of the 2027 rotation.
