Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a budget setting where you can dictate how much of your scouting budget goes to evaluation of your own players vs. evaluation of players on other MLB teams vs. minor league scouting vs. international scouting?
I wonder if your scouting budget is very heavily in favor of either scouting players on your MLB team, or scouting players on other MLB teams if as soon as you let go of the player in question if his scouting report and ratings shift because either you now have more or less resources devoted to scouting him - meaning you are now getting either more accurate or less accurate reports.
His actual performance shouldn't change anymore outside of the normal probabilities, but I could definitely see his ratings and scouting report change depending on how your scouting budget breaks down
