The big picture is clear, but I would like some feedback toward working out the exact details.

The main thing is that 154 games cannot work out to exclusively 3-game series. So how to make it work? There are several possibilities that will work in different ways.

154 games divided by 7 opponents could be exactly 22 per opponent, which could be 11 home and 11 away. An easy way to get to 11 games is three 3-game series plus one 2-game series. The problem with this is that is creates a large number of series and unless there is some weird packing of games and use of doubleheaders there would be numerous weeks with only 5 games such that the schedule would run well into October.

The 22 could be split in some cases 10H/12A and 12H/10A for pairs of opponents. In those cases the 12s would be four 3-game series, and the 10s would be two 3-game series plus one 4-game series that could be accommodated by having doubleheaders. There would probably be no offdays except for Sundays and the All-Star break, but then the schedule could fit within 6 months.

If you are not absolutely tied to 154 games, then 156 works with only 3-game series. The balance would not be exact - the 156 works out with 21 games against four opponents and 24 games against the other three opponents. The length would be reasonable here, between the other two options, ending in early October.

So these summarize, these options are...
* Perfect balance, but long
* Balanced total games, but not in home/away for each opponent
* All 3-game series, but not same number of games against each opponent
...making the question what you see as important and/or what downside you most want to avoid.
