That depends on the difficulty level... on the 'pathetic' level, you are able to create characters with the talent of Maddux or ARod, so unless you get seriously injured or really mess up your workout, you will make the show. But on the harder settings, you may well end up as a career minor leaguer with a couple of late call ups...
