GAME 1 - Nashville Decked by Perez, Patriots
A good performance from designated hitter Juan Perez helped the Boston Patriots defeat the Nashville Blues, 9-0. Perez went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for the Patriots. Jorge Galvez picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-0. He struck out 3 in 7.2 innings. The defeat makes Nashville 4-3.
Perez had a key at-bat for Boston early in the game. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 7th home run of the season and gave Boston an early 2-0 lead.
"Today was a lot of fun," said Perez.
GAME 2 - Nashville Gets 6-2 Win
The Nashville Blues topped the Boston Patriots, 6-2, in American Baseball Conference action at Patriots Fields. The standout performance belonged to Nashville pitcher and Ponce, Puerto Rico, native Sal Serrano. The victory makes Nashville 5-3.
Nashville relied on the hitting of Andres Salas to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Blues on top, 5-1. For the game, Salas had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
In postgame comments to the Nashville Gazette, Serrano said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
GAME 3 - Blues Absorb 6-3 Loss at Patriots Fields
Boston picked up a win at Patriots Fields, bumping off the Nashville Blues, 6-3. Pitcher Victor Martinez was a major reason the Patriots emerged victorious. In 6 innings, Martinez surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 3. He allowed 2 runs. Adam Smith picked up the save for Boston, his 1st of the year.
Javy Lopez went 2 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Boston. The five-time Golden Glove Award winner had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Brandon Roe. It was his 6th RBI of the season.
"We'll sip on a cold one and savor this win," said Lopez.
The loss makes Nashville 5-4.
St. Louis Stallions (6-3) @ New York Aces (6-3)
Stallions Win Series 2-1
St. Louis had their series sweep and four-game win streak snapped at the hand of the New York ace.
GAME 1 - Aces Lose Late, 9-6
The St. Louis Stallions defeated the New York Aces, 9-6. Doing his part was designated hitter Robby Chacon, who was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. The save went to Andrew Williamson, his 2nd this season. St. Louis is off to a hot start at 5-2.
St. Louis relied on the bat of Brandon Simms to get the win. The shortstop ripped a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Stallions ahead, 8-6. For the game, Simms had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Simms said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
GAME 2 - Stallions Prevail, 8-7, Over New York
The inspired effort of New York shortstop Eddie Castruita was not enough to prevent a loss, 8-7, to the St. Louis Stallions. Castruita went 3 for 5 with a home run and a triple. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Willie Gomez earned the win for St. Louis. He lasted 7 innings, allowing 5 runs on 10 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 1-0. St. Louis goes to 6-2.
The result might have been different, had it not been for Jon Ramos, the St. Louis catcher. Ramos had a run-scoring hit-by-pitch in the top of the seventh inning to put the Stallions ahead, 7-5. For the game, Ramos had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Ramos.
GAME 3 - Magana Spins 6-0 Shutout
In an impressive outing, Pablo Magana blanked the St. Louis Stallions 6-0.
"I'm getting a lot more downward movement instead of side to side. That side-to-side stuff can get hit a long way," said Magana, who is throwing with more of an overhand motion.
"It's not rocket science. It was just a little adjustment, but that's all it took."
The New York hurler held St. Louis scoreless, allowed 6 hits, chalked up 4 strikeouts, and yielded 4 walks.
Portland Lumberjacks (3-6) @ Philadelphia Fury (4-5)

Despite game 1 loss Philadelphia dominates in series win.
GAME 1 - Lumberjacks Deal Fury 7-2 Loss
Portland Lumberjacks starter Dave Lamb turned in a top-notch performance against the Philadelphia Fury at Fury Park. The result was a win for the Lumberjacks, 7-2. Kaiden Wilson snagged the win in relief. In 2 innings, the right-hander allowed no runs on no hits. He's now 1-0 on the season. Philadelphia falls to 2-5.
Portland used a timely hit from Jesus Gago to get the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Lumberjacks ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"Winning never gets dull," said Gago.
GAME 2 - Fury Roast Lumberjacks, 14-3
Behind a solid performance from third baseman Rich Pena, the Philadelphia Fury defeated the Portland Lumberjacks, 14-3. Pena went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Fury. The winning pitcher was Hiroki Ono. He tossed 103 pitches over 8 innings, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits. Portland falls to 3-5.
With Philadelphia leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Pena hit a 2-run single off Portland hurler Fernando Borrego. It was the 7th hit of the season for Pena and put his team ahead, 3-0.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Pena told the Philadelphia Times.
GAME 3 - Flores, Fury Finish Off Lumberjacks, 5-1
Philadelphia Fury starter Gilberto Flores pitched his team past the Portland Lumberjacks, 5-1. The win puts Philadelphia at 4-5.
Flores delivered a quality start for Philadelphia. The 5' 11" right-hander allowed 1 earned run on 5 hits over 9 innings of work.
"We did a lot of things right," said Flores.
Seattle Comets (4-5) @ Pittsburgh Express (3-6)
Comets Win Series 2-1
Seattle manages to come up with a series win vs. a struggling Pittsburgh team.
GAME 1 - Luciano Stars in 8-5 Comets Win
A good performance from second baseman Antonio Luciano helped the Seattle Comets defeat the Pittsburgh Express, 8-5. Luciano went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Comets. The save was credited to Sergio Lopez, his 3rd. Pittsburgh falls to 2-5.
With Seattle leading 3-2 in the top of the fourth, Luciano hit a fastball from DeMario Rodriguez for a 2-run double. It was his 4th double of the season and put the Comets ahead, 5-2.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Luciano told the Seattle Bulletin. "It's as simple as that."
GAME 2 - Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Express
The Express grabbed a win, 4-2, at Express Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Seattle pitcher Jose Trujillo. Trujillo went 7.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. The victory makes Pittsburgh 3-5.
Had Jonathan Greene not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Greene hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Express.
"I liked the focus, I liked the effort," said Express manager Mark Averill.
GAME 3 - Comets Win at Pittsburgh, 7-5
Seattle beat Pittsburgh in a rain-soaked ballgame.
The Seattle Comets had to overcome a big game from Pittsburgh designated hitter Jonathan Greene to leave Express Stadium with a victory. And they did, winning 7-5. Greene went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Pittsburgh drops to 3-6.
Seattle used a well-timed hit by Adam Wilson to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Comets ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"What we get, we earn," Wilson told the Seattle Bulletin.
Denver Rocketeers (4-5) @Cincinnati Cougars (4-5)
Rocketeers Win Series 2-1
Denver fails to sweep as clutch hitting in game 3 spares Cincy.
GAME 1 - Big Day for Nierva as Rocketeers Down Cougars, 11-5
In baseball, each game is unique. This one was no different.
Boboy Nierva led Denver to a win over Cincinnati. The final score was 11-5. Nierva scored 2 times while going 4 for 6. The left fielder also was credited with 4 runs batted in. Cincinnati falls to 3-4.
The Rocketeers had to work out of trouble in the bottom of the ninth. The score was 11-5, Denver, with no one out. Cincinnati, with runners on 1st and 2nd, was mounting a threat. Patrício Cogumbreiro dug in at the plate, but on a 0-1 screwball, he lined out.
GAME 2 - Rocketeers Prevail, 8-6, Over Cincinnati
Denver catcher Tony Bautista made his presence felt in the 8-6 Rocketeers' triumph over the Cincinnati Cougars. Bautista was 2-5 with 2 doubles while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Denver starter Manny Garcia was credited with the win after throwing 98 pitches over 7.1 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. Pat Jellison sewed up the save, his 1st.
Denver used a well-timed hit by Jonathan Stevens to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Rocketeers ahead, 4-1. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.
"It was a solid team effort," said Bautista after the game.
The loss has the Cougars at 3-5.
GAME 3 - Cougars Score Late, Stun Rocketeers, 3-2
The Cincinnati Cougars eked out a 3-2 win versus the Denver Rocketeers at Cougars Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Alex Perez. He was terrific. Denver falls to 4-5.
Lance Lynd was the walk-off hero for Cincinnati. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Cougars shortstop hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
Lynd attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
Las Vegas Gamblers (7-2) @ Houston Mavericks (4-5)
Mavericks Win Series 2-1
Struggling Houston manages to win their first series of the season against a hot Vegas team with pitching mastery in game 3.
GAME 1 - Mavericks Take Down Gamblers, 3-2
Fans saw a dandy of a game between the Houston Mavericks and the Las Vegas Gamblers.
Houston picked up a win at Houston Stadium, bumping off the Las Vegas Gamblers, 3-2. Pitcher Dylan Wilson was a major reason the Mavericks emerged victorious. Las Vegas drops to 6-1.
The Mavericks procured the win, in large part because of center fielder Warren Ufena. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single.
"The game of baseball will test you," said Carlos Sanchez, the Houston skipper. "This one tested us."
GAME 2 - Las Vegas Gets 7-3 Road Win
Despite a fine performance by designated hitter Albert Chavez, the Houston Mavericks lost to the Las Vegas Gamblers, 7-3. Chavez was 2 for 4 with a home run while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Roger Holder earned the win to go to 1-0. He allowed 3 runs on 8 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. Earning his 1st save of the year was Jonathan Patterson.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Jon Martinez? The Las Vegas right fielder had a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Gamblers on top, 6-3. For the game, Martinez had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Martinez called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
The loss puts Houston at 3-5.
GAME 3 - Salgado Masters Las Vegas in Complete Game Win
Houston picked up a win at Houston Stadium, toppling the Las Vegas Gamblers, 4-1. Pitcher Miguel Salgado was one of the reasons the Mavericks triumphed. The loss drops the Gamblers to 7-2.
Salgado, the Houston right-hander, went 9 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits. He collected 6 strikeouts.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Houston manager Carlos Sanchez. "It's usually not just one thing."
