GAME 1 - Dukes Collect 1-0 Win Over Kings
Detroit Dukes starter Mike Miranda was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Atlanta Kings, 1-0. Jordan Allison earned the save for Detroit, his 4th of the year. The Dukes, now 6-1, have stormed out of the gates.
Miranda, now 2-0, scattered 4 hits over 11 innings for the Dukes.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Atlanta skipper T.J. Cameron.
GAME 2 - Dukes Drop Kings, 6-2
Detroit Dukes starter Jose Flores was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Atlanta Kings, 6-2. The Dukes, now 7-1, have stormed out of the gates.
Detroit relied on the hitting of Juan Aranda to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Dukes on top, 3-0. For the game, Aranda had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said Detroit manager Jose Perez.
GAME 3 - Solis Skunks Kings
It wasn't easy but Jon Solis made it look that way.
Solis silenced the Atlanta Kings, 5-0, in a Detroit Dukes triumph at Kings Field today. Despite the appearance of dominance, Solis said later that he felt like he was struggling all game. He gave up 3 walks and 1 hit.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I made the decision to bear down and work through it," he said. "I made a few mistakes but it goes to show what you can do with grit and not much else."
Minneapolis Blizzard (2-7) @ Charlotte Colonels (6-3)
Colonels Sweep Series 3-0
Strong pitching and timely hitting has Charlotte securing their second straight sweep.
GAME 1 - Late Rally by Colonels Seals 4th Straight Win
The home crowd had a good time watching the Minneapolis Blizzard and Charlotte Colonels get after it.
The performance of Julio Haro proved critical in helping Charlotte beat Minneapolis, 6-4. The Colonels shortstop was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 3 runs. Tony Barnes was the winning pitcher. Over 8 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 11 hits, with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. Earning his 2nd save of the year was Edwin Martinez.
Charlotte took a 5-4 lead on Santiago Castro's 2nd double of the season. The 2-run double, which Castro hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Minneapolis pitcher Emilio Lopez visibly frustrated.
"The vibe's good," said Charlotte manager Jason Wainwright. "We've got to keep it going."
The loss makes Minneapolis 2-5.
GAME 2 - Colonels Subdue Minneapolis, 6-5
The Charlotte Colonels withstood an impressive performance by Minneapolis designated hitter Hirotoshi Nishimoto to defeat the Blizzard, 6-5, at Colonels Park. Nishimoto was 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Jordan Williams, the winner, goes to 1-0. He allowed 5 runs on 9 hits, with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts over 7 innings. The win puts Charlotte at 5-3.
The outcome might have differed if Sergio Barraza had not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Barraza hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Colonels.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Barraza.
GAME 3 - Umana Pitches 6-0 Shutout for Charlotte
The Charlotte Colonels whipped the Minneapolis Blizzard 6-0 at Colonels Park today behind a masterful outing from starter Roberto Umana.
Umana shut out the Blizzard on 4 hits and 1 walk. He registered 6 strikeouts over 9 innings.
"Velocity felt good, everything felt good today," a smiling Umana said later. "Command felt good, conditions felt good, glove felt good, that felt good. Seriously everything."
San Diego Seraphs (3-6) @ Miami Hurricanes (4-5)
Hurricanes Win Series 2-1
Miami ace delivers the series victory.
GAME 1 - Hurricanes Top Seraphs, 5-2
Miami Hurricanes starter Joe Good hurled his team past the San Diego Seraphs, 5-2. Eric Behan closed it out for his 1st save. The loss has the Seraphs at 2-5.
Alex Moncayo drew 1 walk in 4 plate appearances for Miami. The 22-year-old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the third. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring walk off Jose Segura. It was his 1st walk of the season.
"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Good said.
GAME 2 - Seraphs Upend Hurricanes, 7-2
San Diego and Miami put this game in the books despite some rain.
San Diego rode a decent outing from starter Robbie Kendall to victory over the Miami Hurricanes. The final score was 7-2. San Diego goes to 3-5.
Eduardo Cordoba, the 25-year-old shortstop, directly impacted the outcome. Cordoba contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the sixth inning to put San Diego up, 3-1.
"I really like what we did out there today," Kendall said after the game.
GAME 3 - Aguilar Throws 6-Hitter En Route to 5-1 Hurricanes Win
Miami Hurricanes starter Gil Aguilar turned in a top-notch performance against the San Diego Seraphs at Hurricanes Park. The result was a win for the Hurricanes, 5-1. The loss puts San Diego at 3-6.
Aguilar's performance can only be described as masterful. He notched 11 strikeouts in 9 innings while allowing 6 hits. Aguilar, who finished 2nd in the NBC in innings pitched with 271.2 in 1979, goes to 2-1 on the year with 21 strikeouts.
"I got in a good groove," said Aguilar. "I was getting some swings and misses."
San Francisco Warriors (6-3) @ Tampa Bay Storm (2-7)
Warriors Sweep Series 3-0
San Fancisco finds little resistance in series sweep.
GAME 1 - Warriors Deal Storm 9-2 Defeat
San Francisco Warriors starter Kyle Chambers pitched a strong game against the Tampa Bay Storm at Storm Stadium, leading the Warriors to victory, 9-2. In 9 innings, Chambers surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 3. He allowed 2 runs. San Francisco goes to 4-3.
San Francisco relied on the bat of Victor Quintero to get the win. The first baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Warriors ahead, 2-1. For the game, Quintero had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Quintero.
GAME 2 - Hutchinson Hits 2 home runs in Warriors Win
Ron Hutchinson left his imprint on the 17-5 San Francisco win against the Tampa Bay Storm. Hutchinson was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs, and a walk, and was hit by a pitch while scoring 4 runs and driving in 3. The winning pitcher was Antonio Pineda. His record is now 2-0. The right-hander went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits for the Warriors. The win has San Francisco at 5-3.
Chad Averitt, the top prospect, directly impacted the outcome. Averitt contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the fifth inning to put San Francisco up, 5-3.
"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," said Averitt. "But I like how we're playing right now."
GAME 3 - San Francisco Dismisses Tampa Bay, 2-1
The Warriors grabbed a win, 2-1, at Storm Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Tampa Bay pitcher Miguel Mora. Mora went 8 innings and allowed 2 runs. Rogelio Hidalgo finished wrapping up his 1st save. San Francisco goes to 6-3.
Leo Diaz, the 27-year-old center fielder, had a direct impact on the outcome. Diaz contributed a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to put San Francisco up, 1-0.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Tampa Bay manager Mike Khoury.
Los Angeles Cobras (7-2) @ Chicago Fire (4-5)

Los Angeles fails to complete the sweep vs. Chicago ace.
GAME 1 - Los Angeles Gets 5-1 Win
Los Angeles used a superb performance from starting pitcher Enrique Laxton to down the Chicago Fire, 5-1. Laxton, the winner, moves to 2-0. He threw 7.2 innings of 3-hit ball while fanning 3 and giving up 5 walks. Los Angeles goes to 6-1.
Fernando Domenech, the 27-year-old left fielder, had a direct impact on the outcome. Domenech contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put Los Angeles up, 1-0.
"We did a lot of things right," said Laxton.
GAME 2 - Cobras Deal Fire 2-0 Loss
The Chicago Fire wasted an impressive 8-inning effort from starter Tony Espinal, falling 2-0 to the Los Angeles Cobras at Chicago Grounds. Adam Jahn picked up the win, improving his season record to 2-0. He struck out 2 in 6 innings. At 7-1, the Cobras have played well so far.
Los Angeles relied on the hitting of Bill Haywood to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cobras on top, 2-0. For the game, Haywood had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Bottom line," said Chicago skipper Matt Mead, "we didn't play well enough to win."
GAME 3 - Jimenez, Fire Get 3-2 Win
The Chicago Fire racked up a win at Chicago Grounds, bumping off the Los Angeles Cobras, 3-2. Heriberto Jimenez, who started for Chicago, pitched effectively for his team. The defeat makes Los Angeles 7-2.
Jimenez gave Chicago a solid start. The left-hander allowed 2 runs on 3 hits over 8 innings.
Jimenez attributed the win to his team's "hyper resolve."
Phoenix Firebirds (4-5) @ Dallas Rustlers (7-2)
Rustlers Win Series 2-1
Dallas continues their solid start with a strong team series win.
GAME 1 - Vela Pops Two Homers in 9-1 Win for Dallas
The timely hitting of Rich Vela helped the Dallas Rustlers down the Phoenix Firebirds, 9-1. Vela went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4 for the Rustlers. Gabriel Zayas, the winner, improved to 2-0. He held Phoenix to 1 run on 6 hits over 9 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. Dallas goes to 6-1.
In the top of the seventh, Josh Harrison stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Firebirds were trailing 8-1 but had the bases loaded. That's when Gabriel Zayas made a terrific pitch and Harrison struck out. Gone was the dream of a Phoenix comeback.
GAME 2 - Firebirds Win at Dallas, 5-3
Phoenix catcher Rafael Hill made his presence felt in the 5-3 Firebirds triumph over the Dallas Rustlers. Hill went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times. The loss makes Dallas 6-2.
The outcome might have been different for Phoenix, had it not been for Josh Harrison, the 28-year-old center fielder. Harrison stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Phoenix up, 5-3. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Harrison, "one at bat at a time."
GAME 3 - Rustlers Sink Firebirds, 8-5
The Dallas Rustlers picked up a win at Rustlers Grounds, taking down the Phoenix Firebirds, 8-5. Starting pitcher Anton Garay was a big reason why. Vinny Gonzalez nailed down his 2nd save. The Rustlers, now 7-2, have been playing some good baseball.
The Rustlers got a big at-bat from third baseman Cliff Barron. For the game, Barron went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Dallas a 5-3 lead.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Dallas manager Brian Parsley.
