Off on the Wrong Foot
For the first time in franchise history, the Mets bowed on Opening Day, getting crushed in Cincinnati, 11-3, at the hands of the Reds.
Larry Dierker was shelled for seven runs - all earned - in just 4 1/3 innings, yielding six hits and an alarming five walks. Dick Selma and Grant Jackson came out of the pen and poured gasoline on the fire, each conceding a pair of runs.
