What I meant was if he's trying to avoid Rule 5 eligibility, all he's gotta do is put the guy on the 40-man and pray he develops as needed over the next year or two.
Of course if he was selected in the Rule 5, that's a mighty risk of using him as a 13th/14th batter on a roster and hoping he has either an amazing glove or lightning speed to take up that roster spot for a full season. This actually paid off for me with Jose Ramos and Edmundo Sosa in previous years.
