That would mean this kid was signed at 13 or 14..... which has happened with some international players.
Seeing as this player signed with LA in 2022, if the kid was 13 or 14 at the time and the OP is in his 2026 or 2027 season right now then I guess everything jives with that time frame
Knowing that he'd have to stick on a ML roster if drafted in the rule 5 though, I'm still not sure the kid would get drafted if he's still several years away from being big league ready... Sabotaging his development while he sits on the bench for 3 years doesn't seem to make sense, not to mention you're forfeiting a roster spot by keeping him. Definitely an interesting scenario. But to the OP, if you're worried about losing him just release some AAA depth reliever or middle infielder and then throw the kid on the 40 man.
