Tigers 2020
Coming in to the job I had given myself 6 years to be on track for a trip to the big dance in the WS but would the owner be so patient? Only just barely. When looking at my roster I found very few players that were going to fit the style of Tigers baseball I wanted to bring to Detroit so I immediately got on the phone and started wheeling. Not much to say about this season, as expected a total disaster. Needless to say I had a lot of work to do in the offseason but where to start? Offense, defense, and pitching are in need of major help.
Offense- As the numbers show, very little to be happy about here. Very little contact or power, low walks and too high a rate of SO. No real path to improvement with this bunch and only V. Reyes and C. Pache have any real upside potential for the future. Good thing I picked S. Torkelson in the draft. Victor Reyes was the only semi bright spot with a .289 avg, 49 doubles and 19 stolen bases. This topped out WAR list at 2.1. Yikes
Pitching- If scoring only 615 runs isn't bad enough, how about giving up 884? And don't blame the defense, I didn't have the Justice League in the field! Just like the offense, this is a total disaster. Everything was just real bad, being a net minus in HR, BB, and SO differential just for starters. None but C. Mize have any real chance of sticking around for the good times.
Defense- The best part of the Tigers and that was still only good for a team ZR of -5.1 but I have seen worse. A key philosophy of the Detroit Tigers will be that bats have to come with gloves too so this will hopefully be a relative strength by 2025
Looking Forward: Very few standout prospects and a team of bad players means trades and the rule 5 are my future.
Offseason Moves:
Out: FA- I. Nova SP, J. Kipnis 2B, J. Zimmerman SP, J. Mercer SS, B. Farmer RP.
Trade- R. Greene OF
In: FA- A.Castro RP, T. Walker SP
Trade- G. Arias
Rule 5- M. Kasowski RP
See you in 2021
